Heading into Wales, on the doorstep of the Menai Straits is Penrhyn Castle and Gardens, Bangor. The castle has many stories to tell including that of the longest industrial dispute in modern history. Marvel at its architecture, opulent interiors and fine art collection. Discover its vast rooms, neo-Norman stairways and what life was like in the Victorian kitchens.
The extensive gardens are perfect for exploring and enjoying spectacular views of Snowdonia and the North Wales coast. Find peace in Walter Speed’s famous walled garden.
The railway museum focuses on industrial locomotives; some were used in the quarry in nearby Bethesda. The collection is housed in the old stable block, once home to the 36 estate horses (slightly more horsepower now). The collection includes engines, carriages, rolling stock and tools as well as a film that offers an insight into the previous lives of the engines on display.
Did you know the American TV giant HBO film at the castle for some of their new series?
